New Year, New Me?

January 1, 2026

Ahhh, yes! It's that time of the year again; out with the old and in with the new. The opportunity to start fresh. The chance to become anyone or anything other than who or what I was in 2025. This time around the new year’s resolution will be a new year’s reality! The metaphorical and actual turning of the calendar page alone should be enough for manifestation magic. Right? Right?!

We have heard or spoken similar rhetoric. Why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we create unnecessary pressure to change and even at times eradicate who we are? I love the drive behind improvement. The desire to become the greatest version of one’s self. But simply because we enter a new calendar year we should not abandon the progress we have made just days ago. In fact, we should look to improve upon the foundation because starting from zero can be daunting, time consuming and disheartening. Your former and present self deserve better!

What better way to illustrate a point than with tried and true cliches. A nice reminder due to the fact that burnout and fatigue hit hard in the first few months of the year. “Life is a marathon not a sprint”. “Anything worth having is worth working for”. And of course the classic “Rome wasn't built in a day”. We should aim for consistency and continuity. Sustained growth over the months and therefore the years so that our efforts compound and lead us closer to our goals; whatever they might be. So how does one develop this mindset or even begin to apply this?

First and foremost, we are all human, so a level of grace needs to be given to ourselves because life happens and it is unrealistic to be perfect every second of every day. Remember it's not how many times you fall but the number of times you rise. Hmm another cliche but hey it still holds true! Back to the development and application. There are several ways I have found success over the years. This is not a secret nor magic cure and no you don’t need to sign up for a masterclass. This is free.99 as it should be! Please note that the most successful method is the one that works best for YOU and aligns with YOUR goals and/or lifestyle. Below are my top 3 and can be implemented before you even finish reading this blog post.

Write Into Existence

  • Simple yet effective! You can write in a journal, planner, etc. It goes from your brain to reality with a quick stroke from your favorite writing utensil. Need a little extra motivation? Get some colorful sticky notes and write down your goals, thoughts and affirmations to place around the house, work and even your car for constant reminders! Why stop at writing? Draw, color and paint your reality into existence!

Tell Everyone

  • Accountability is everything! Allow others to hold you accountable. Share your plans and dreams for the year with your support system and if you're friendly enough, strangers. Why? Because strangers are simply friends we have not met yet! You never know who may be on a similar journey or who has already walked that path. The more people you have in your corner of support and the array of resources you may have available will aid you along the way.

S.M.A.R.T Goals

This one brings me back to my college years (good golly am I getting old) and is an acronym used as a template for setting and achieving goals. You can find countless FREE templates all over the internet. It breaks down as so:

  • S = Specific The more specific the better. Truly hone in on what you wish to accomplish

    • Example: I want to lose 10 pounds

  • M = Measurable Be sure you can track and measure your success

    • Example: I will record my weight in a journal every morning and take weekly progress pictures

  • A = Attainable Burnout and fatigue are real. Focus on achievability but still a challenge

    • Example: I will exercise 3 times per week with my Coach Nick

  • R = Realistic/Relevant Is this realistic to accomplish and relevant to your long term plan?

    • Example: I want to feel and look beautiful for my wedding and honeymoon

  • T = Timely Open ended goals rarely get accomplished; give yourself a deadline

    • Example: I want to lose the 10 pounds by the start of September this year

Bringing the S.M.A.R.T Goal together:

  • I will lose 10 pounds by the start of September by working with Coach Nick 3x per week and recording my progress daily/weekly, so that I may feel and look beautiful on my special day.

Let this be a starting point not a restarting point! If you need help with setting goals or resources please don't hesitate to reach out with questions or simply to say hello. With that being said, let’s have our 2026 mentality be “New Year, Better Me”!
